Success!

I have finally found a way around my computer at work not letting me log into my Blog - be proud of me! I decided to download a different browser to see if maybe it was the fact that IE 6 was not working properly on this machine. So, I decided to download Mozilla Firefox for something different. Well, the very first time I tried logging into my blogger account in Firefox it worked! So now, I can do my posting at work until we get the internet thing figured out at home. I tried it again last night and had no luck connecting. The funny thing is that the network we usually connect to is listed but when you try to connect, there is no response....it doesn't even say acquiring network address. I don't know if there is something wrong with the network itself or what. I did successfully connect on Sunday morning for about an hour and then it disconnected and I was unable to get back on. I would really not have to go back to doing internet stuff while at work and then going to the library for connection. I told Brice we might have to actually get our own internet and he was crabby about it and being a cheapskate - for some odd reason, he thinks that getting an actual land line installed in the house and getting dial-up for at least something to have is too expensive. I guess for some odd reason he thinks $25.00 a month is too expensive but why, I have no idea. I do know that I'll have to talk him into something because we finally have electronic gadgets at home and they are no good without internet connection. Does anyone feel my pain?

Thought of the day

As much as our homes mean to us, they are not permanent…. Those disciples who for Christ’s sake gave up houses and lands and loved ones knew little of home life or home joys…. The venerable Bishop Ryle is reputed to have said, “Heaven is a prepared place for a prepared people, and those who enter shall find that they are neither unknown or unexpected.” Even life’s happiest experiences last but a moment, yet heaven’s joy is eternal. Some day we will go to our eternal Home—and Christ will be there to welcome us!

Finally!!!

Ok, so ganking signal off of one of our neighbors hasn't been very reliable lately. This is the first day I have actually been able to get on the internet in like 3 or 4 days! All I really want to post right now are some pictures that I took on thursday. I want to take a weekly picture of me and post it so you all can see the progression of my belly. I am aware that it might take a while for me to actually show since, as one of my friends puts it, I am fluffy. So here are the first pictures in the series at 6 weeks.

I'll try to make a long story short

So I haven’t been ignoring the blog on purpose lately.  Wednesday of course was Ash Wednesday and ended up to be pretty busy.  I had to work until 3pm, then I went to the mall for about an hour after that and then I had to go to my OB clinic to go to this really REALLY stupid OB class that they make everyone go to before their first appointment.  I was cranky about even going and then when the nurse says, “The receptionist told you this will last an hour but it usually lasts an hour and a half” made me even more cranky because not only was it Ash Wednesday but I had to meet Brice for dinner in-between the class and church.  Well, we ended up making it to church on time but after that I was exhausted so we got home and I went to bed.  Last night I took some pictures and wanted to post them but the wireless network that we usually use hasn’t been very reliable lately so I couldn’t get connected to the internet.  Hopefully I can do that this weekend because with all of the snow we are supposed to get, I’m not going to want to leave the house.  So stay tuned, there is more coming!

The promised video

Yea, I know I'm not very intersting to watch and I was really just goofing off. I ended up having to do this in photobucket instead of youtube....long story. Anyways, enjoy my ramblings!

My new gadget

As the title says, I got a new gadget today. I finally decided to make the digital camera purchase since we have the computer and printer but no camera. I decided to splurge on the 8mp camera - one of my co-workers told me this would be better if there is a need for a bigger picture than regular size. I kind of had a tough time getting it; I found the one I wanted at Target for $199. I then checked the Walmart website to see if I could get it for less which it was but I called a couple of the stores in the area and they don't even carry this camera in the store! So then I tried Best Buy - again it was on the website for less but they don't carry that one in the store either. So I ended up getting the camera at Target and had to get a case, a new memory card and some rechargeable batteries, after which my purchase ended up being more than I wanted to spend but I believe it will be well worth it. I ended up taking some pics of the house to experiment and tried doing a video with the image card that came with the camera but I ran out of room. I'll try fiddling with the new one I bought and see if I can't get a video posted yet today. In the meantime, enjoy my boring pictures of the house!

Thought of the day

Conscience has been described as the light of the soul. Even when it is dulled or darkened by sin, it can still bear witness to the reality of good and evil, and to the holiness of God. What causes this warning light to go on inside me when I do wrong? It is my conscience, given by God to steer me away from evil and toward good…. Persistent sin can dull or even silence our conscience. On the other hand, persistent attention to God’s Word will sharpen our conscience and make us more sensitive to moral and spiritual danger. Is this happening in your life?

Ramblings....

Well, I wasn't expecting to do an actual post today that involves actual thought. You see, usually on Monday I go through all of my weekend day by day desk calander at work and find the best one to post to the blog because, well, Billy Graham can just say things better than I can. So since my calendar is at work I usually just do it while I'm there but I have to be sneaky about it. For some odd reason, my computer at work won't let me log into blogger so I usually just send an email to the blog and it usually posts just a short time after I hit send. Well, I did that today but somehow, my email got lost out in cyberspace! So sorry about that but now you get to hear me ramble!

I did get an email today from one of my college friends who also just recently started a blog. Please visit them (by them I mean my college friend who married another one of my college friends; confusing isn't it?) - I put a direct link to their blog on the right side of the page and it is called The Alpaca Ranch. Read it, you will enjoy it very much!

So referencing yesterdays post, Brice was putting together the new book shelf which was a feat in itself. You see, at Target they have this new line of no tools required assembly furniture. It all went really well until we went to put the backing on. It turns out, it wasn't quite wide enough and none of the holes matched up to what were supposed to be corresponding holes in the wood to secure the two. We ended up getting out the nails and nailing it on but it's still not perfect. The backing came in 2 parts - the bottom part did not have any holes in the support bar to keep it up. I ended up having to tape it just so it wouldn't bulge and look silly (thank goodness that is the part that's against the wall). We probably should have gone to Ikea, we usually don't have any problems with their stuff.

Well, I think I've done enough rambling for now. I'll try to find if what I was going to post today is still on my computer at work and post that for tomorrow.

The big announcement!

Ok, remember my post yesterday where I said to stay tuned because something exciting was about to happen? Here it is in the form of a small but getting bigger every day announcement. Are you ready?

Brice and I are very proud to announce that we are going to become parents in October. That’s right, you heard it here first….I’m pregnant! Currently we are only 5 weeks so it is very early yet but we are starting preparations already. The first of which is that we bought a new book case a couple of weeks ago but hadn’t put it together yet. Well, Brice is doing that today so we can get all of the boxes of books out of the spare bedroom which will eventually become the baby’s room. We were at Target the other day and decided that we like the Classic Pooh and might end up doing the room in that…we’ll keep you updated!

Remember yesterday’s post when I said I was getting breakfast made for me? I guess that is one of the highlights of being pregnant - daddy wants to make a good healthy breakfast for me and the baby. It feels really nice to be doted on! So far I feel good, no morning sickness at all but I do feel a little more tired than usual so I’ve been taking naps after getting home from work. I am really freaked out about how long it will take me to grow out of my pants. Brice doesn’t seem to think that I ever will for some odd reason. I will grow out of my pants, the question is just when. The reason why I’m worried already is that I am feeling bloated and some of my pants are already feeling tight and there seems to be only a couple of stores that actually sell plus sized maternity wear. I’ll probably have to buy the majority of it online which kind of sucks because you can’t try on the pants before you buy them.

So if you are wondering if the new grandparents know, the answer is yes. I called my mom on Wednesday and let her know she will be a grandma and she was so thrilled that she was already talking about getting the old crib out for when we come to visit….of course I had to tell her that we have to get the baby born first before we can come and visit with him or her. We had brunch with Brice’s dad and wife today and they were very excited as well. Brice’s dad doesn’t get very vocal when he is excited but he was. He was saying how he is going to have to get used to being called Grandpa Fischer because he thinks of his Grandpa Fischer when he hears that.

Well, please stay tuned to the blog - I will update regularly with baby news and use it as a pregnancy journal of sorts.

Another uneventful day

Yes, you read right, it really has been another uneventful day in the Fischer household. Hubby and I both slept late and then I got breakfast made for me....I'll divulge why at a later time. While breakfast was being made, I sat in front of the TV and watched the Saturday morning animal shows; you know, the ones that are meant for kids....I like watching them too! After which we did a little dish washing, laundry, web brousing and Hubby did a great job picking up the clutter in the living room! Tomorrow will be an early day because Hubby has to work in the nursery at church during early service and I'm going to go with him and play with the little kiddos for a while. After that we are off for brunch with Brice's dad and step-mom at this fancy new restaurant in Lakeville. After which we will probably come home and do a little more house cleaning....we have quite a lot to do....and again I will divulge more about that later.

Well, that's really all for now. Please stay tuned because something exciting is about to happen!

Lessons

This is really all I have to say today. If anybody can read this and take it to heart, I think all of our relationships would be better.

Colossians 3

Rules for Holy Living
1Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. 2Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4When Christ, who is your[a] life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
5Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 6Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.[b] 7You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. 8But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. 9Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. 11Here there is no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.
12Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
15Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. 17And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Rules for Christian Households
18Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.
19Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.
20Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.
21Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.
22Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to win their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. 23Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, 24since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. 25Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for his wrong, and there is no favoritism.

Talented Kids

Ok, did anyone happen to catch Oprah today? Yea I don't usually watch it either but I came home to an empty house and Oprah just happened to be on so I watched it. She had a bunch of VERY smart and talented kids on. Of course, the one that caught my attention was the 8 year old (yes, you heard me right) who sang that really amazing aria from The Magic Flute....you know, the one with staccatto high notes (I believe there is a high D or something to that extent in there) and she sounded amazing! Of course, she is 8 and the voice is not perfect but man, would I have killed to have a voice like that at 8! You can go here to read a little bit about her and see a picture. Unfortunately there was no audio or video clip up of her performance but if I ever find one, I'll post it here!

Thought for the day

Nowhere does the Bible teach that Christians are exempt from tribulation and natural disaster…. But the Bible does teach that we can face trials with a power others do not have—the power for God. As we trust Him, God helps us endure, and even discern His purposes in the midst of suffering…. The eagle has the unique ability to lock its joints and soar effortlessly on an updraft, instead of flapping its wings. As we wait on God, He helps us use the winds of adversity to soar above our problems. As the Bible says, “Those who wait on the Lord….shall mount up with wings like eagles” (Isaiah 40:31)

The week in a nutshell

Well, it seems that this week has gotten away from me yet again. If you remember this post, I decided to just work a few really long days to make up for the time that I missed on Monday. Since I couldn't stay late on Friday due to my voice lesson, I worked 3 long days and then a normal day on Friday. My lesson on Friday was awesome! I think I had a "break-though" finally right at the end of my lesson. I've had to change a lot of things about the way that I sing because my voice is much different and more mature than what it was in college. Sometimes I feel like I'm learning technique over again but after yesterday I feel like it was completely worth it. Yea, I have a long way to go but I feel more positive now than I did a few months ago. When I got home I realized how tired I was - I had forgotten how much energy is used when you sing! I ended up going to bed pretty much after dinner with Brice (he had to get up early to work at 5:30). Today, I'm lounging since he's at work. I got to watch a sappy TV movie without Brice sitting here making fun of me the whole time. I do eventually have to get off the couch so I can either go shopping for something to make for dinner or get some kind of take out. Being that I've had such an unproductive day, I really don't have much more of anything to say. Maybe I'll post something that has a little more substance later.

Thought of the Day

Have you ever been under water for a period of time that is longer than you had expected? You know, as the time ticks away, how desperate you become to reach the surface and breathe the air…. You have no other thoughts but quenching your need for air. That is what it means to “long for God,” to feel unfulfilled without Him. It means we know we desperately need Him, even more than we need air, and we yearn to be filled with His presence….Ask God to give you a new hunger for Him, so you may become filled with “the fullness of Christ” (Ephesians 4:13)

Roger Bourland

So I ran across a blog today written by Roger Bourland who is a composition and theory professor at UCLA. He had a very interesting post today regarding auditions and how they can be devastating and discouraging. He is trying to get away from the norm to tell people what they need to work on before auditioning again. If only everyone did that at audition time! Go here to read his posting; I'm sure you will enjoy it as much as I did! I also have to add that his comment about one of his teachers that told someone they are no good really hit home with me. I had one of my professors say that to me and it was devastating. Of course I complained and absolutely nothing happened and I found out later that not only did he treat me like that but also other very talented musicians that I had classes with. It is really unfortunate that colleges waste time and OUR money on these looser professors.

Katherine Jenkins

So, since I am at home today I've been reading some blogs. I ran across the article on this blog and I ran across the name Katherine Jenkins so I did some searching on YouTube. I found this clip of a song that I love and must I say that her voice is beautiful! She might be the next CD that I venture out to buy because, I really enjoy her voice. Click here to visit her website.

Oh the weather...

So today is starting out wonderful; I guess if you can call this wonderful. I went out to the garage about an our ago now and the keypad was frozen....so then I tried the manual open and that one was frozen as well! I tried turning it but it won't turn enough to unlock so I can get the car out of the garage. And on top of it all, Brice had to work at 5am so he is already long gone. I tried calling and paging him but he's not answering so I'm assuming he's busy. I guess staying home today isn't all that horrible; it just sucks that I got up early only to not be able to get anywhere!

Charlotte's Web and the weather

So apparently I've done a really good job of ignoring my blog this week but I don't really care much. Brice and I have gotten some really good couple time in this week and that is much more important! Last night we went to see Charlotte's Web, the remake of the cartoon that we grew up watching. The reason we decided to see a kids movie is because they are pretty much the only movies we can agree on seeing. Brice always wants to see the really kind of artsy movies and those are not really the movies I am really all that interested in seeing. Of course, none of the movies I suggested he had any inkling to see so we ended up on Charlotte's Web. I have to say that the movie was very cute, with all of the animals, Wilbur of course being the cuteist. We all know the story, that Wilbur the pig makes great friends with Charlotte the spider who ends up dying in the end. No matter how prepared I was thinking I wasn't going to cry because after all, it's a kids movie and I know she is going to die anyway because she is, afterall, a spider, I ended up crying anyway. Of course, the movie has a happy ending, the spider egg hatches and all of Charlotte's babies fly off with only 3 to stay with Wilbur and the other animals in the barn...the happy part being that Wilbur now makes 3 new friends that he gets to name and share the story about their mother with them. I hope I never get tired of watching kids movies because they are probably some of the really great movies that are out there. Today Brice and I ended up braving the cold weather (of course, I still don't think it's all THAT cold outside...that's another point I'll elaborate on later) and took a trip to Target to finally get a new bookshelf because books don't really belong in boxes you have to get off a shelf, dig through and trip over when you are looking for one book. We did end up finding one but it's not as tall as we would have liked so we were going to get 2 but of course, they are inbetween inventory in their furniture department so we have to wait a couple of weeks to get the second one.

Ok, so now I will rant about the "cold" that the crazy home-grown Minnesotans seem to think is cold. Because this is the coldest it's been in 3 years, they can't stop talking about it on the news....GET OVER YOURSELVES PEOPLE!!!! is what I really want to say to them all. Do they REALLY want to know what cold is? Go move to North Dakota and live there for 18 years, bearing walks to school in -20 temperatures, a winter with a -80 (with wind chill of course) temperature and then tell me that this puny -10 below weather we are having now is cold. The other day at work somebody came back in the building after lunch and said something to the effect that now it starting to get cold. Of course, I listened and when I left for the day decided to bundle up with my scarf and gloves only to get outside and find out that it wasn't all that cold out at all!! What a bunch of wusses these stupid southern Minnesotans are about the mild weather they get down here. Ok, I think I'm done with my rant for now, I had to get that off my chest!

Happy Super Bowl tomorrow...I don't really know who I'm rooting for - I'm thinking about watching the game just for the commercials! :)
